Nights Lead Project Plumber

Position Overview

A well-established commercial and industrial services organization is seeking an experienced Nights Lead Project Plumber to lead plumbing crews and oversee project execution during the overnight shift.

This is a hands-on leadership position for an experienced commercial or industrial plumber who can independently coordinate field activities, direct journeyman and apprentice plumbers, interpret construction documents, maintain project schedules, and ensure installations meet applicable plumbing codes and quality standards.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical plumbing expertise with field leadership, organization, and the ability to keep crews productive while maintaining a safe and professional jobsite.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise plumbing crews on commercial and industrial projects during the night shift.
• Coordinate daily work assignments, manpower, materials, equipment, and project priorities.
• Monitor field progress and ensure project milestones and scheduled completion dates are achieved.
• Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, and construction documents.
• Install, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and industrial plumbing systems.
• Work with domestic water, sanitary, storm, gas piping, and related plumbing systems.
• Identify installation conflicts and field issues and coordinate appropriate resolutions.
• Ensure installations comply with applicable local, state, and federal plumbing codes.
• Conduct quality inspections and ensure completed work meets project specifications and company standards.
• Coordinate with internal project leadership and other trades to maintain efficient workflow.
• Train, mentor, and provide technical direction to apprentice and journeyman plumbers.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, employee timekeeping, material usage, and project documentation.
• Manage jobsite tools, equipment, and materials to maximize productivity and minimize waste.
• Enforce OSHA requirements and company safety procedures while maintaining a safety-focused work environment.
• Maintain professional communication with internal teams, customers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of commercial and/or industrial plumbing experience.
• Demonstrated experience serving as a Lead Plumber, Plumbing Foreman, Project Foreman, or comparable field-leadership position.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of commercial and industrial plumbing installation and service.
• Experience with domestic water, sanitary, storm, gas piping, and related systems.
• Strong understanding of applicable plumbing codes and installation requirements.
• Ability to independently read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
• Ability to organize manpower, materials, tools, and daily field activities.
• Experience directing and developing journeyman and apprentice plumbers.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability and willingness to consistently work the required night shift.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Michigan Journeyman Plumber or Master Plumber license.
• Experience leading crews on large commercial or industrial projects.
• Experience coordinating work with project managers, general contractors, other trades, and customer representatives.
• OSHA training or comparable construction-safety credentials.
• Experience managing project documentation, labor hours, material usage, and field productivity.

The ideal candidate is an experienced commercial or industrial plumber who has progressed into a lead or foreman-level position and remains comfortable working hands-on alongside the crew.

This individual should be capable of receiving a project scope, reviewing the drawings and specifications, organizing the work, directing manpower, identifying potential field issues, and keeping the project moving without requiring constant supervision. Strong candidates will also have a track record of developing apprentices and journeymen while holding their crews accountable for safety, quality, productivity, and schedule.
