Tapping Machine Operator

Location: Hudson, Ohio
Compensation: $17.00–$18.00 per hour

Position Overview

A growing automotive-component manufacturer in Hudson, Ohio is seeking a dependable Tapping Machine Operator. This position operates production equipment that creates internal threads in metal fasteners and precision components.

The operator will load parts, monitor the tapping process, inspect completed threads, identify defective material, document production results, and maintain a safe and organized workstation.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate tapping equipment according to work instructions and approved machine settings.
• Load metal fasteners and components into hoppers, feeders, fixtures, or machine work areas.
• Monitor part feeding, machine cycles, tooling condition, lubricant or coolant flow, and completed-part quality.
• Install or replace taps and basic tooling after completing required training.
• Make approved machine adjustments to maintain production flow and part quality.
• Clear minor jams and report mechanical, tooling, or quality problems to the appropriate personnel.
• Inspect completed parts for damaged, missing, incomplete, oversized, undersized, or improperly formed threads.
• Verify threaded features using thread plug gauges, go/no-go gauges, approved samples, or other inspection tools.
• Separate accepted, rejected, rework, and suspect material into properly identified containers.
• Maintain lot integrity and prevent different part numbers or production lots from becoming mixed.
• Record production quantities, inspection results, downtime, scrap, and tooling changes.
• Complete work orders, production sheets, labels, and required quality documentation accurately.
• Package, label, count, or weigh completed parts as required.
• Remove metal chips and debris and perform routine operator-level cleaning and maintenance.
• Maintain appropriate coolant, lubricant, and material levels.
• Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, PPE rules, and quality standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
• Perform other machine-operation or production-support duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous manufacturing, machine-operation, metalworking, or production experience preferred.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to recognize abnormal machine operation.
• Ability to follow written work instructions, machine settings, and inspection requirements.
• Basic math, counting, and documentation skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.
• Ability to use or learn thread gauges and basic inspection equipment.
• Comfortable performing repetitive production tasks throughout the shift.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and use hands for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds as required.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Willingness to work overtime based on production requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating tapping, drilling, threading, machining, or fastener-production equipment.
• Familiarity with taps, internal threads, cutting tools, lubricants, and metal chips.
• Experience using go/no-go gauges, thread plug gauges, calipers, or micrometers.
• Automotive fastener, nut, bolt, machining, or metal-forming experience.
• Experience completing production and quality records.
• Pallet-jack or forklift experience.
