Inspection Operator

Position Overview

A growing automotive-component manufacturer in Hudson, Ohio is seeking a dependable Inspection Operator to inspect precision metal fasteners and ensure finished products meet customer, dimensional, and quality requirements.

This position performs visual and dimensional inspections, identifies defective material, documents results, and keeps accepted and rejected parts properly separated. The ideal candidate is attentive, dependable, and comfortable performing repetitive inspection work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect automotive fasteners and precision metal components according to work instructions and quality standards.
• Perform visual inspections for cracks, damaged threads, incorrect dimensions, surface defects, mixed parts, contamination, and other nonconformities.
• Conduct dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, plug gauges, ring gauges, comparators, or other approved instruments.
• Compare inspection results against drawings, specifications, control plans, samples, and established tolerances.
• Sort accepted, rejected, and suspect parts into properly identified containers.
• Prevent defective or mixed material from moving to packaging or shipment.
• Record inspection results, quantities, defects, scrap, and production information accurately.
• Complete inspection sheets, quality records, labels, and production documentation.
• Notify supervisors or quality personnel when recurring defects or process concerns are identified.
• Assist with containment, sorting, reinspection, and corrective-action activities when required.
• Package, count, label, weigh, and prepare approved parts for the next production stage.
• Maintain traceability by keeping work orders, lot numbers, containers, and labels together.
• Handle parts carefully to prevent damage or contamination.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe inspection area.
• Follow all company safety procedures, quality requirements, and PPE rules.
• Perform other inspection, sorting, packaging, or production-support duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous manufacturing, production, inspection, sorting, or quality experience preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify small defects.
• Ability to follow written work instructions, samples, and inspection standards.
• Basic math, counting, and documentation skills.
• Ability to use or learn basic precision measuring instruments.
• Comfortable performing repetitive inspection tasks while maintaining accuracy.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and use hands throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds as required.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Willingness to work overtime based on production requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Automotive fastener, machining, metal-forming, stamping, or production experience.
• Experience with calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, plug gauges, or ring gauges.
• Familiarity with blueprints, part specifications, control plans, or quality-alert documentation.
• Experience completing inspection reports and maintaining material traceability.
• Exposure to nonconforming-material, containment, sorting, or rework procedures.
• Pallet-jack or forklift experience.
