Mectron Inspection Machine Operator

Position Overview

A growing automotive-component manufacturer in Hudson, Ohio is seeking a dependable Mectron Inspection Machine Operator. This position operates automated inspection and sorting equipment used to verify the dimensional accuracy, surface condition, and overall quality of precision metal fasteners.

The operator will load parts, select approved machine settings, monitor inspection results, separate nonconforming material, document production data, and ensure that only parts meeting established quality standards are released.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate Mectron automated inspection and sorting equipment according to approved work instructions.
• Load fasteners and components into hoppers, feeders, or conveyors.
• Select the correct part program or inspection recipe for each production order.
• Monitor machine operation, part flow, inspection readings, and accept/reject results.
• Perform approved machine adjustments and clear minor jams or feeding issues.
• Verify rejected parts and notify quality personnel of recurring defects or unusual inspection results.
• Conduct visual inspections and basic dimensional checks using calipers, micrometers, or gauges.
• Confirm machine accuracy using approved samples or master parts when required.
• Keep accepted, rejected, and suspect materials properly identified and separated.
• Complete production counts, inspection records, scrap reports, and other required documentation.
• Package, label, and move completed parts according to work instructions.
• Perform routine cleaning and basic operator-level equipment maintenance.
• Maintain an organized workstation and follow applicable safety, quality, and PPE requirements.
• Communicate machine, material, and quality issues promptly to supervisors or quality personnel.
• Meet established production expectations without compromising inspection accuracy.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous manufacturing, production, inspection, sorting, or machine-operation experience preferred.
• Ability to follow written work instructions, inspection standards, and part specifications.
• Basic computer and touchscreen-control proficiency.
• Basic math skills and ability to record production information accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize defective or nonconforming parts.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive material-handling tasks throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds as required.
• Dependable attendance, punctuality, and willingness to work overtime when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating automated inspection, vision, laser, or sorting equipment.
• Automotive fastener, nut, bolt, stamping, or precision-component experience.
• Familiarity with calipers, micrometers, gauges, or other inspection tools.
• Experience documenting scrap, defects, production counts, or quality results.
• Exposure to quality systems, control plans, work orders, or nonconforming-material procedures.
• Forklift or pallet-jack experience.
